How to adjust VM's speed ? Like "transmission gear"

$

I want to adjust VM's speed , not to speed up VM.

For example , Slow down the VM , when 1 minute has passed in the real world , only 30 seconds have passed in VM.

So , how can I make that ?

Workstation Player installed on Win10 does not run any guest VMs at all

I have several VMs that were installed with Workstation Player on win7. I upgraded to win10 on my home desktop so the same host hardware. I installed the same version of Workstation Player on win10 and now every machine runs incredibly slow or just not at all. This is very frustrating and I'm considering going back to win7 or leaving vmware all together. I have the same exact hardware and out of the box win10 installed with workstation player 14 installed. This seems like a very standard testing scenario that is not working at all.

I tested this with all types of guests, including win7, win8, win10, ubuntu and esx. Nothing ran nor installed on a fresh machine. I tried putting additional settings in the config.ini file like allowLegacy but that did not help. I installed win10 on another desktop installed the latest workstation and still the same results.

Is anyone else using workstation on win10 having any performance issues? Better yet: does anybody have a fix?

Issues with ovftool an machine import in WS 14.0

Hi all,

i have a serious problem with Workstation 14 and import of OVA´s  uing VirtualSCSI Adapter.

In workstation 12 and earlier, OVA´s with VirtualSCSI got installed with warning and get´s translatet to lsilogig.

 ==>C:\Users\KarstenBott\Sources.labbuildr\OVA found
 ==>found Nested_ESXi6.5d_Appliance_Template_v1.0.ova in C:\Users\KarstenBott\Sources.labbuildr\OVA
 ==>Importing from OVA Nested_ESXi6.5d_Appliance_Template_v1.0, may take a while
Warning:
 - The specified operating system identifier 'VMware ESXi 6.5' (id: 104) is not supported on the selected host. It will be mapped to the following OS identifier: 'Other (32-bit)'.
 - Hardware compatibility check is disabled.
 - Line 52: Unsupported virtual hardware device 'VirtualSCSI'

In Workstation 14, the same import leads to an error:

==>Importing from OVA Nested_ESXi6.5d_Appliance_Template_v1.0, may take a while
Warning:
 - Line -1: Unsupported value 'vmware.tools.internalversion' for attribute 'key' on element 'ExtraConfig'.
 - Line -1: Unsupported value 'vmware.tools.requiredversion' for attribute 'key' on element 'ExtraConfig'.
Error: Invalid target disk adapter type: pvscsi
[success]

So why does Workstation 12 utilize lsilogig during OVA Import where 14 tries to use (unsupported ? ) pvscsi ?

PVSCSI is still. available in 14, i have machines successfully booting with it.

the machines i tried to import are lamw´s NestedESXI OVA´s that worked pretty well prior 14.

Hi

I am using veeam to replicate to a off-site every 2 hours.

When there is a internet disconnection, the replica will be corrupted and I will have to restore back a good full backup copy and redo the whole replication again.

Is there a method/settings that I can use if any replica is corrupted I can restore back the last good replication instead of starting all over again from a full backup restore?

After High Sierra Upgrade

After upgrade can no longer open my Windows10 "BootCamp"

I can open up Windows within Bootcamp, aka hitting option and selecting the "Windows" labeled hard drive image/icon.

It used to be labeled "Bootcamp" now it's label "Windows"

Thus why I think it's not working within Fusion 10 Pro

after High Sierra 10.13.2 Update with Fusion 10.0.1 I get Unidentified Network on Windows 10

Hi,

after the last update of OSX.

I start my Windows 10 virtual machine on Fusion 10, at the beginning it work correctly then, after a while, I get Unidentified Network error message in the windows network adapter.

The error persist to the a simple windows restart operation.

The only way to solve the problem is to completely quit of fusion program, at the next start the network works fine for a while.

I use wifi in my Mac machine and the network configuration on fusion is the default "Shared with my Mac".

before the update I used HighSierra 10.13.1 and everything worked fine.

any suggestion?

Thank you

Domenico

A discrepancy in Snapshot size by Snapshot management window and by Powershell Command line

I  used the command "Get-VM | Get-Snapshots | Select VM,Created,Name,SizeMB", and the result in the size on snapshots is quite a lot of different (much smaller) than the size as shown from Snapshot management window on VM's in VSphere client. I tried a number of VM's, got the same outcome.

Which one really is true?

If Vsphere is, then what command can I use to get an accurate result?

Thank you!

How to get multiple hosts/subdomains to all your many vm's behind one public IP?

$
0
0

One you start to pile more and more vm's, you realize something is "oh no" quickly when you only have one static IP address from the isp.

The problem is that you have vm's that are all grabbing the same ports.

Gone the days when a web server only needed port 80, or the email server that only needed port 25.

Consider: a vm of MS Exchange, a vm of a Citrix something, and an ubuntu with god knows all sorts of goodies on it, yet all three vm's are fighting for the same ports.

You can only NAT (network address translate) so much, in the end some ports simply can't be dedicated to one vm and not the others.

Most hardware routers can't do any sort of reverse NAT or reverse proxy.

domain.com and www.domain.com -> vm at 192.168.0.10

exchange.domain.com -> vm at 192.168.0.20

citrix.domain.com -> vm at 192.168.0.30

dontmakemeuseasp.domain.com -> vm at 192.168.0.40

anyhost.domain.com -> vm at 192.168.0.nnn

A visitor from the internet will always resolve the same one public IP from a dns lookup of something.domain.com, so the router inside the LAN must port forward to the right vm accordingly.

I am told that software appliance routers (like a vm of pfsense) can do reverse proxy, but that means I have to stop using my trusty sonicwall hardware router that has been faithful over the years.

I'd just like to know some ideas that vm lovers here have gone about this?

vCenter 6.0 - high CPU usage!

$

Hello!

When we was on vCenter 5.5 its CPU consumption chart was nearly flat when idle and was about ~400-500 Mhz max.

Now we have this when upgraded to vCenter 6:

vCenter6 CPU.PNG

High peaks every 5 minutes - some "java.exe" process from SYSTEM account suddenly pops out, use several CPU cores and then disappears. It shows 3 times, and use 40-100 Mb each time.

After another 5 minutes it is repeated.

The host is ESXi 5.5 and the vCenter VM is the only VM on that host. vCenter is completly idle for hours - no vMotions, etc.

How to find out which vmware service exactly uses the CPU? Maybe it is possible to disable it, or somehow restrict it.

Thank you!

Set default home page in IE.

Hello UEM guru,

Is there way to set default home page for linked-clone pool using UEM?

I know this can be done via GPO but wanted to see if I can get it work in UEM.

Since home page is profile specific,  I don't know if it can be done.

I tried going into Personalization > Windows Settings > Internet Explorer and added registry key.

Also tried Personalization > Windows Settings > Regedit but no luck on both.

Thanks in advance,

VMware Fusion 10

Trying to Add VM Tags Via vRO Workflow

$
0
0

UPDATE: Just realized that for the property (vRA.Deployment.Tags) I only have the tag name entered in the Value column for the dropdown. Do I need to add a way to reference the tag category? Not sure how to add that to the property.

UPDATE 2: Doesn't look like the workflow requires a tag category. I'm trying to force the workflow to give me more information in the logs, see at what step it's failing.

UPDATE 3: Found the issue, but not sure how to fix it. So the issue is that in the Variables section of the last run of the setVcTags workflow, I can see the following:

vmName: (here it gives the correct VM name)

errorCode: "Could not find VM (Dynamic Script Module name : findVcVmByName#7)"

Because the result of vmName isn't getting properly passed to the vm attribute (type: VC:VirtualMachine), or at least it can't find it based off that name, the workflow ends.

I may end up opening a ticket with VMware to see why it's not getting passed properly.

Hey everybody,

Novice vRO user here (yaaaay) - so I've been tasked with having vRA assign 1 of 2 tags to every single VM when it's being created (for these examples, "Backup Tag 1" and "Backup Tag 2"). We're doing this to enable auto backups in Avamar.

Here's the site that I've been using: Assigning vCenter tags using vRealize Orchestrator – The vGoodie-bag

So far I have:

  1. In vRO client, run "Import vAPI metamodel" successfully.
  2. Imported this package: vCenterTagging/com.vGoodie-Bag.library.vapi.package at master · KnutssonDevelopment/vCenterTagging · GitHub
  3. Went to the setVcTags workflow in vRO (vGoodie-Bag > setVcTags) > edit > endpoint > changed to "https://[my vCenter FQDN]/api"
  4. Created property "vRA.Deployment.Tags" as a dropdown (X = Backup Tag 1, Y = Backup Tag 2) and added it to the Blueprint.
  5. (I already have a LifeCycle Property Group with pretty much all the "VMPSMasterWorkflow32" entries, plus two "CloneWorkflow" ones, so just made sure that was in the Blueprint as well.)
  6. Created a new Subscription: setVcTags > Machine provisioning > Lifecycle state name = "VMPSMasterWorkflow32.MachineActivated" > State phase = "POST" > selected the "setVcTags" workflow from the imported package > Finish
    1. NOTE: This is one of the steps where I got confused, since they mention sorting workflows in vRO but don't give any information at all - I'm assuming the fact that I chose a state phase when creating the subscription means I'm good?

Now when I build a VM in vRA, it successfully builds, and after a while vRO says that the setVcTags workflow ran successfully (under Logs it has two messages - "Settings vCenter Tags" and then "Tags: Backup Tag 1") - however, no Tags appear in vCenter for that VM.

I'm assuming I'm just missing something with how I've set this up in vRO - obviously vRA is calling the workflow because I see it running, but nothing's making it back to the VM. Maybe I haven't tied in the right action at the end of the workflow or something? I'm really sorry if I've missed something obvious, this is my second time trying any serious workflow, and the first one I'm piecing together myself.

Let me know if any other info is helpful, and I would love any suggestions of what to check next. Thanks!
