VMX file corrupt

Hi

 

I decide to resinstall my PC

 

I copied all  my data to an external drive and re installed it.

 

HAving reinstalled windows I copied my files back and installed the latest version of Player.

 

I use it to run an old accounts package under windows XP.

 

Now when I start up the virtual drive I see that my VMX file is corrupt.

 

In the folder I have loads of files with names _000 and  s001 up to s011

 

I do not want to start doing anything without being sure what I'm doing and it appears my backup is corrupt.

 

Would appreciate and help. Or if it is dead can I "break into"  thevirtual Drive and extract my accounts

RAID 5 OK or Should I Always Go With RAID 10?

I have 2 DELL r710 host servers with esxi 6. The first server was configured with RAID 5 due to needing the hard drive space. I now have 6 900GB 10k SAS disks to go into the 2nd host server. Is there really a noticeable difference in performance going with a RAID 10 that will leave me with 2.7TBs of disk space? RAID 5 gives me 4.5TBs of disk space which is a pretty big difference.

VMware Player 12 unresponsive under Windows 10 Home

Dear Partners,

Few months ago I installed VMware Player under Windows 10 Home and worked with it with any problem, all was perfect.

 

After some updates of Windows Update, I can't open VMware Player 12, it doesn't answer, unresposive, the application remains blocked with any answer, so I can't use VMware Player anymore.

 

I've unistalled and installed again VMware Player 12, but I continue with the same problem.

 

Any suggestion?.

Initialize-PowerCLIEnvironment_Custom.ps1 broken

I just installed 6.5 R1 and the Initialize-PowerCLIEnvironment_Custom.ps1 seems to be broken now.  For one thing, it looks like Initialize-PowerCLIEnvironment.ps1 got moved from "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphere PowerCLI" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\PowerCLI".  I moved my custom file there instead, but still does not call it.  Looking back at an earlier version of "Initialize-PowerCLIEnvironment.ps1", there used to be a variable "$CustomInitScriptName" that is no longer being set in the new version.  Did this feature get dropped?

Guest Script in VM

I'm new to the Orchestrator world and I am making great strides with workflows, but need some help.

 

I have successfully imported the "Guest Script Manager" package and I have successfully used the "Run script in VM guest" workflow. However, what I want to do is a little more complex, and here is what I want to happen:

 

1. User reconfigures VM.

2. That action triggers an Event in the Event Broker.

3. The event triggers the "Run script in VM guest" workflow.

 

I've gotten these steps to work, however the inputs for the workflow require an input for the "VM (VC:VirtualMachine)", and I want to have the VM automatically come from vRA without any other interaction. As it stands, the Workflow fails, because there in no VM to run the script on.

 

I've attempted to use the the action "QCgetvCenterVmFromvCACVm", that I found on these forums, with no avail. Either I am using it wrong, or the action doesn't do what I want it to.

 

I'm not a Javascript master and could use some help.

Would Apple FileVault (encryption) affect VM Fusion?

Hi, am considering encrypting my hard drive using apple FileVault2 on my MacBookPro on MacOS Sierra and current running VM Fusion Version 7.1.3 (3204469), have not au-gated yet to 8.5, as this one seems to work fine. Would FileVault2 (encryption) affect VM Fusion? has anyone had any experience with it?

Project Pro and Visio Pro 2103 app stacks cause problems with Word 2013

Having an issue getting my Project Pro 2013 and Visio Pro 2013 app stacks working correctly.  These are two separate app stacks.  Office 2013 Pro (full install) is installed in the base image and the provisioning VM is a clone of the base image.  When either of these app stacks is assigned to a user the app stacks mount properly and I can open and use Project/Visio normally.  However, when I open Word the error in the attached pic "There is insufficient memory or disk space. Word cannot display the requested font." is presented.  In addition, the fonts list in Word is empty with the exception of the Times New Roman and Calibri fonts but the fonts list in the Project 2013 app stack is fully populated.  Word works normally and displays all fonts when these app stacks are not assigned.  Before anyone posts anything about normal.dot please be aware that I have searched all over the web and tried everything related to fixing normal.dot with no luck.  Also, we use token based activation for Windows and all Office products in this environment (I don't think this has any relevance here but thought I would add just in case).  Does anyone have step-by-step instructions for creating Project/Visio 2013 app stacks?

vRealize 6.4 Python Actions Adapter missing?

I just installed vRealize 6.4 and do not see the Python Actions Adapter listed under Adapter Type in the configure Solutions option.

I was able to configure the vCenter Adapter, however, I don't see the Python Adapter.

Has this changed in 6.4 as I was able to install int in6.2?

Hola,

 

Tuve un problema con el fluido electrico y cuando quiero iniciar mi MV en VMware vSphere me devuelve el error:

No se puede abrir el disco '/vmfs/volumes/529e2b6c-00553282-65ca-001d092adc2b/Sharepoint (Clon)/Sharepoint (Clon).vmdk' o uno de los discos de instantánea de los que depende. El archivo especificado no es un disco virtual.

 

He intentado guardar todos los archivos para abrirlos en VMware Workstation pero el error sigue.

 

Adjunto archivo vmx, el archivo de registro y lista de archivos del directorio de la MV:

 

Por favor necesito recuperar la informacion de esa MV.

Win 7 Pro VMs freeze briefly at random intervals. Sierra 10.12.1 + Fusion Pro 8.5.1.

Recently upgraded 2012 MBA to Fusion Pro 8.5.1 and Sierra. Seeing these issues:

 

* VMs freeze randomly for a few (between 2-10) seconds - no response to keyboard/mouse input.

* Keystrokes/clicks appear to be mostly buffered - then processed when VM becomes active.

* Task Manager doesn't reveal anything - still happens when Windows appears largely idle.

* Problem appears to worsen over time. Rebooting VM helps briefly, but problem reappears quickly.

* Did not have this issue before upgrading.

* 3D Acceleration off.

 

Any advice is very much appreciated --- thanks.

VC 6.5 Install failure - identity management service error on first boot

Is anyone else experiencing a failure when installing VC 6.5?  I have this occuring when installing using the CLI installer, and when deploying the OVA using the ESXi web client.

 

The version of VC is 6.5.0 build 4240420, the recent release candidate.

Resetting root password in host & VSA

Hello,

 

We have 5 hosts (5.5) with one virtual server appliance.

 

Summary below:

 

- all 5 hosts have same root password

- virtual server appliance has the same password as the hosts

 

From the KB I am reading and gathering what I read.  Please confirm the following steps.

 

- Log into each host via ssh and reset each individual host.

su root

passwd "my new password"

 

- Then log into VSA and reset the the "administrator" account  (basically the VSA administrator account is the same as the vCenter)

Licence Number for Trial version of Vmware vsphere ESXi and vcenter

Hello everyone,

 

I downloaded trial version of esxi and vcenter server 6.5.

 

In my lab environment I installed 2 ESXi hosts, and I want to test Clustering and DRS, and other features of vmware vsphere ESXi.

 

Also, I install Vmware vcenter 6.5. How can I get trial licence number for ESXi and vcenter servers?

 

Most of features in my vcenter server are not active.

 

I was able to add my first ESXi Host server in my vcenter server, but I could not add my second ESXi Host in the vcenter server.

 

I really appreciate if somebody give me any clue to build my lab.

Logoff - not detaching AS or WV

We have an odd scenario. Running a fresh install of AV 2.11

Win7 VDI Linked clones w/Horizon View 6.2.2

 

Everything appears to work fine when a user logs off, however we discovered if a user disconnects and leaves a stale session things go sideways.

We configured Horizon View to logoff users (thus triggering a dismount of AS and WV) stale sessions after 5 minutes.

 

Horizon View appears to do its job, logging off the user and making the VDI available. However that logoff process triggered by View is not causing AV to dismount. A review of the AV agent log on the VDI at the time of dismount reveals what I believe is the issue:

Before you ask yes ports 443 and 80 have been verified as open. After Horizon View shows the VDI as available after logging the user off AV manager still shows the stack and writable volume attached.

Thoughts?? Suggestions?

Vmware tools vmhgfs and RHEL 7.3

I'm using vmware workstation pro version 12.5.2 on Windows 8 host.

 

After upgrading my RHEL 7.2 workstation guest to RHEL 7.3 (kernel 3.10.0-514.el7.x86_64), vmhgfs kernel module broke.

 

Digging into it, my quick (but not backwards compatible, so this most probably brakes the build for older, RHEL 7.2 kernels) fix is this:

To apply the patch, unpack /usr/lib/vmware-tools/modules/source/vmhgfs.tar , make the change to page.c, then pack vmhgfs.tar again, and run vmware-config-tools.pl .

Cannot Connect to Host Server

Hi guys,

 

I've decided to reach out for help here as I've literally googled everything and still cannot fix my problem or even begin to understand.

 

I am not familiar with vmware at all. This is my first project. I'm having to set up our internal system onto virtual servers. (exchange, ACS, website, etc.). We are trying to downsize. Anyways, I have installed ESXi 5.5 update 2 on my machine. Installation went correctly as far as I could tell. It is pingable and can ping out into the world. Also enabled SSH (but I cannot SSH into it :/). This is an HP Proliant dl380 Gen 8.

For my test machine, I have an old clunker I found in the office, 32-bit running windows 7 and vsphere client 5.5. It can ping the host. When trying to connect to the root through Vsphere, it times out. This computer is directly connected to a switch with no firewall blocking any connection between computer and host server. I feel like I'm missing a step to make these two connect. There isn't any "How to set this up for dummies" articles out there.

 

Also, from my understanding, you have to run a virtual machine on the host to install vcenter?

 

Sorry if any of that is confusing or my terminology is off......newbie.

Hardware advice for single server running ESXi Trial

Greetings all,

 

Apologies if this is the wrong forum.  I've reached the limitation of Workstation 12 in that I setup a shared server and yet cannot copy/paste, drag/drop to these guests remotely.

 

Is there a next level product, workaround or other solution I just don't know about?  Highly possible...

 

If no other solution exists, I'd like to build a small lab server, 8TB storage or so, 64/32G ram, single or dual I7.

 

Is there a handy vendor or list that would sell something on this scale that is compatible with ESXi 6 ?

VCSA 6.5 - Installing Nexus 1000v extension XML File without the vSphere Desktop Client

I've started playing with the latest VCSA 6.5 - with mixed success.  Initially I did an upgrade from VCSA-6.0 to 6.5 but this soon ended with tears and a very broken VCSA that probably cannot be fixed.

 

So I've now done a clean install of VCSA 6.5 and am in the process of re-setting it all up.  The issue I am experiencing at the moment is around the installation of the Cisco Nexus 1000v - which I had working with great success under VCSA 6.0 and ESXi-6.0 .

 

As part of the installation of the N1kv there is a requirement to install an extension, which has a certificate embedded in it.  I believe this is used to allow the N1kv to communicate with the VCSA,  The easiest way to install this was via the plugins menu in the vSphere desktop client.  However with the vSphere "fat" client no longer functional under VCSA 6.5, this doesn't leave any options that I can see, as to how to install this file.


Notwithstanding that the N1kv is not yet officially supported with VCSA 6.5 I would like to at least get a little further through the installation than I am now as the problems I am seeing appear to be VCSA limitations (not n1k bugs).

I have attempted to use https://vcenter/?moid=ExtensionManager&method=registerExtension however that fails, with an error too:

So my question is, what is the now-supported way to add this extension to the system?  Is there a CLI method, or can it be done via scp, or PowerCLI ?
