In 1GbE network , we put iscsi portgroup separately in a vswitch and assign multiple nic card for failover. Can we put iscsi port group and virtual network portgroup in same vswitch(vss) which has multiple 10GbE uplink?

Memory/CPU overcommitment recommendations
We are campaigning for more resources in our vSphere vCenter (VMWare 5.5). Sadly, I don't have the level of access to it that allows me to see things like page size and so far in my reading i can't find anything beyond statements that this or that config 'affects" my allocations. And since there are no recommendations for overcommitment even though there are notes that certain configs can affect my ability to support it it's pretty hard to get traction when we say "yo, we need more RAM/CPUs"
(my reference: VMware vSphere 5.1 I read through the entire section on Memory Virt. basics and Administering Resources however most of the settings described were specifically denied in the vSphere Client)
I believe i have 144G of Memory and 72 vCPUs (2x6 actual) yet i'm chugging along with some serious overcommitments: the vms are a little cranky at the moment about their RAM and i'm overcommitted by 210% I am getting memory warnings at the moment, but they tend to resolve by bringing down a vm with as little as 1G RAM. In my experience, however, even a warning can cause failures of the underlying vms.
I'm not currently overcommitted for CPUs, but upon quick review of the cpu section i don't see anything about overcommitment. HAs anybody written an article on such a thing. I couldn't face reading any more sections, but will perhaps tackle that tomorrow.
I was sad to find that unlike with disk space which i tackled several years ago, there were no suggestions or recommendations. So, my question is. For the most common configurations of VMWare, what is the recommended maximum overcommitment of CPU and Memory. I don't mind reading blogs, but i need to be able to filter it down to: config a: 110% 100%, config b:90% 90%.
vMA 5.5 and vMA 6.0
The vSphere Management Assistant (vMA) is a handy tool for CLI configuration and management of virtual machines using shell scripts instead of requiring the Web client.
Accordingly, we've downloaded and installed vMA 5.5. Now we are upgrading our vCenter from 5.5 to 6.0. I assume, therefore, that we also need to upgrade the vMA 5.5 appliance to vMA 6.0.
--> True?
--> If so, could some kind-hearted soul please supply the vMA 6.0 download link?
I've been all over the Products and Download pages and come back empty-handed.
Thanks,

Convert P2V Windows 2000 ESXi 5.5
Hi,
We're running ESXi vCenter 5.5 with 3 5.5 hosts. I'm trying to convert an old physical Windows 2000 server and add it to one of our ESXi hosts.
It seems like the latest version of the Agent converter I can run on the W2K server is 4.01. Anything newer than that won't install.
And version 4.01 of the Standalone Converter cannot connect to an ESXi 5.5 host, (due to it not being compatible I'm suspecting).
If I run Standalone Converter 5.5 and connect to the W2K server, it wants to upgrade the agent which it obviously can't do.
Has anyone got this to work?
Do I have any other options?
Thanks.
6 host VSAN Cluster - I want to change the VSAN vmkernel IP's
Hi,
as the title says, I have 6 host VSAN 6.2 cluster (with some VM's on the VSAN datastore, powered off right now). What is the best method of changing the VSAN vmkernel IP addresses, without any data loss..
Has anyone done this type of thing? The last octet will just slightly change to lower numbers.. no VLAN / subnet changes etc.. I'll just edit the VSAN vmkernel and change the last octet..
Cheers
Paul.
Cancel a snapshot removal in progress
We had some issues with our Exchange cluster and needed to cancel the backup job (made a call out to Veeam). Even though the backup job was cancelled from the Veeam console, the snapshot removal is still running (it is at 90%). Is there a way to intervene the process so we can shutdown the machine and manually remove the snapshot so it can go faster?
Btw - the Exchange guys think the stun period may have caused the databases to hop/dismount from the machine on the cluster. We have seen it so many times.
High CPU Contention issue
I have an issue with high CPU Contention which sometimes averages above 10% for a good portion of the day but I cannot seem to get it down below 5%.
Here's the basic setup, it runs on ESXi 6.0.0 build 3568940.
Here is what is on each of the two hosts:
Here is CPU Contention according to vRealize for today:
Now according to me, i have plenty of free pCPU's to account for scheduling of all my vCPU's so in theory I should not be experiencing this much CPU Contention. I do have two other clusters that work harder than this one and they rarely spike above 2.5%. Anything else i need to look into?
All programs in Windows 7 have "stopped working"
I recently updated my Mac and consequently VMware, and now any time I try to open a program, Windows gives me an error message saying it "has stopped working", before anything else happens.
I think it might have something to do with being forced to reduce the memory severely (after updating) just so I can run the VM at all. Not sure though.
request a catalog item
Hi,
I building Xaas blueprint with "request a catalog item" workflow.
The Problem is that every request i make running (submitted by) with "configurationadmin" user. any one know why?
I have a version 7.

Installing DNS
Hi,
VMware Workstation 12 Pro is installed in Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012 R2 is installed in VMware Workstation.
Why do I need Bridged Networking for Windows Server 2012 R2 for installing DNS?
And what type of IP addresses I need to setup in Windows Server 2012 R2?
I am learner and please assist me to resolve my doubts.

Any harm in disabling the VSAN Health Service?
Since updating to vCenter / vSphere 6 update 2, I'm starting to see a steady stream of VSAN Health tasks being logged in vcenter. However, I'm not using or even licensed for VSAN so I'm a little stumped. . The events being logged every few seconds are:
Retrieve a ticket to register the Virtual SAN VASA Provider
and
Update option values
If I stop the VSan Health Monitoring Service, these events stop.
My question is, if I'm not actually using VSAN, is there any harm in disabling the Health Monitor service? I'm assuming no, but would like to get confirmation

Get-VDport missing data
I am having an odd experience with Get-VDPort. I am doing the following:
Get-VDSwitch | Get-VDPort -Uplink | where proxyhost -match "$($ESXHost.name)"
This is in a loop of many esx hosts.
This should produce all the uplinks in each vdswitch however I am missing uplinks. When i do this command on a specific vdswitch everything comes back as expected.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? or is this a known bug?
Setting up 3-node vSAN cluster from scratch
Ok so I finally have all my hardware in to start setting up a 3-node vSAN cluster. I've never even setup an ESXi cluster before (been using a standalone ESXi 5.5 server for the past few years) let alone a vSAN cluster. I'm having trouble finding some good resources/recommendations on how to set up the cluster from scratch. All I have setup at this moment is vSphere 6.0 U2 on all 3 machines (installed on USB sticks).
What I'm looking for is:
- Some sort of guide to setting up the cluster
- Some recommendation for how to configure networking given my hardware
My hardware is as follows:
Switch: Dell X1052 (48 x 1Gb ports, 4 x 10Gb SFP+ ports)
Node #1 & #2:
- Xeon D-1537(8c, 16t), dual SFP+, daul 1Gb NICs, onboard LSI controller
- 64GB DDR4 Registered RAM
- Hitachi HUSSL 400GB SAS SSD
- Intel S3500 800GB SSD
Node #3:
- Xeon D-1518 (4c, 8t), dual SFP+, daul 1Gb NICs, onboard LSI controller
- 16GB DDR4 Registered RAM
- Hitachi HUSSL 400GB SAS SSD
- Intel S3500 800GB SSD
How can cpu/mem.usage.average be greater than 100%?
Hello,
I am using Get-Stat cpu.usage.average and mem.usage.average to check VM usage. I am pulling info at 2 hr intervals.
It is my understanding that each of these measurements should be a maximum of 100 for each VM-host (summing % of each client). or in my case 500 as I have 5 identical VM-hosts.
But, as I sum each column I get 600-700 - hos is this possible?
Thanks-

VSAN Data health always showing issues
Hi,
Fresh VSAN setup. All running fine, no VMs on it. Two physical hosts, one virtual Witness. Virtual SAN data health shows all is fine. Virtual SAN HCL health gives some warnings since this a homelab and not everything is on the HCL.
Did some proactive tests, all fine.
Moved a VM to the datastore and suddenly I get data health warnings and 5 inaccessible objects. Checked the KB linked to this through the interface, but that didn't mentioned any working solutions.
How bad are these messages? Can I fix the data health? Is my hardware causing faults? Am I losing data?
Saludos,
