Hello,

Anyone know if macOS Mojave guests are supposed to function on Fusion 11?

If so, how do I make the guest understand that I'm running with the display capabilities of a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)?

Thanks,

Filtering Noise

So we have been playing with our deployment, and getting a feel for it.

It seems like there is a lot of noise present.  We've been successfully using event_type filters to remove some of this.  Is this a standard practice, or are there some other tricks?

When we are filtering things out, are we going to impact any other stock performance monitors inside vRealize Ops Manager?

Set File Type Associations (FTA) on Windows 10 using UEM

Finally a way to define File Type Associations on Windows 10!

Christoph Kolbicz reverse engineered the hash used by Microsoft to set FTA info in the registry. He created a tool that allows you to set any FTA on Windows 8/10 and 2012/2016.

Now you can finally link PDF and HTML extensions to another app than Edge. Or make any other change you would like.

When you combine this with VMware UEM, you can automatically set the right FTA's at logon.

Just create a UEM Logon Task to start the tool with the right parameters. You can find the tool, documentation and more info here:

Fusion 11.5.0 running OS X vm can't resize display or share folders

I set up a Mac OS X 10.11 virtual machine so I can run 32-bit apps like Adobe CS) (since Catalina 10.15 won't support 32-bit), but the VMware Tools don't seem to be working.

The display won't resize from the default 1024x768 and none of the shared folders appear.

Is this a known problem?

Hi!

In my Powercli scripts, I use the Invoke-VMScript cmdlet. On non-English operating systems, the command output becomes unreadable. For example:

I know that in this example should be Cyrillic.

How can I get a normal output ?

I suspect I have somewhere to enable UTF-8 encoding.

Hello,

I am doing a VCF lab and I was able to successfully deployed a consolidate vcf architecture. I wanted to explore more the SDDC manager and when I tried to create a Horizon workload domain, the button is dimmed and it said " disabled due to missing vdi install bundle". I want to know how I can download the bundle for VCF3.8.1. I found documentation and link for VCF3.7. Is it ok to upload horizon vcf bundle for 3.7 into my vcf3.8.1 lab. As i am doing a lab, will i be able to download it from my vmug account?

Regards.

Is anyone seeing this odd files that seem to be hard to remove from the /locker in ESXi

So while in the midst of upgrading my ESXi 6.5u1 to 6.7u2, I ran into this on many of my hosts. "The system has insufficient locker space for the image profile." While I had to try different things on a case by case basis to get to ESXi 6.7u2. In the majority of the hosts I kept seeing the following in images below. In some cases I was able to delete everything in the /locker folder in some I'm not. I'm only able to remove enough stuff so that I can copy over the packages and var folders which should be the only things in here. Just wondering if anyone else has ran into this and can shed some light. I'm also getting this on some hosts when I try the following command to remove everything in folder (rm -rf *)

VMXNET3 adapters in Windows Server 2019 fail and require disable/re-enable to restore

Hello,

We are currently building out a new environment with ESXi 6.7 and Windows Server 2019. We have noticed a strange issue where randomly servers will fail to respond. No ping, no RDP, other traffic works against the system. We are still able to access the VMRC console and log into the system from which we can see that we are unable to ping the local gateway or other resources. Otherwise the system and other systems appear perfectly fine. If we disable the windows NIC and then re-enable, the issue will go away.

The NICs are VMXNET3, the VMware Tools are 10.3.10, build-12406962, the ESXi host is 6.7.0, 15018017.

Normally I would try the E1000 NICs to see if it's a VMXNET3 driver issue but the environment is 10G and I have been told the E1000 don't support 10G.

What could be causing this issue and how can we prevent it?

Hello,

Is it possible to migrate several VMs per batch from VCENTER?

And to make sure that the VMs are migrated by one to the new server?

Thank you

Bonjour,

Est-il possible de migrer plusieurs VM par lot à partir de VCENTER ?

Et de faire en sorte que les VM soient migrés une par une vers le nouveau serveur ?

vRA Agent (Gugent) on RHEL/CentOS/OracleLinux 8.x

Hi,

I tried to install vRA Agent (7.5) on operating systems:

- CentOS

- RHEL

- Oracle Linux

version: 8.1 (CentOS: 8.0)

But I cannot install rpm.

error: Failed dependencies:

     /usr/bin/python is nedded by gugent-t.5.0.-9915762.x84_64.rpm

Of course I have installed python2, python3 and python36 packages.

There is a symlink between /usr/bin/python -> python2 and python2 -> python2.7

Does anyone know how to install gugent agent on such OS?

Does upgrade to 7.6 will help?

And yes, I know that 8.x versions are not officially supported.

question about the vmware executable resposible for copying files into guest vm

Hi there,

I have a specific question that may need an expert.. I need to know what exactly the executable that is responsible for copying files from host machine to guest machine..

is it vmware-vmx.exe or another executable?

notice that I am asking about the simple right-click-and-copy in the host machine then right-click-and-paste in the guest machine..

I am not asking about copying files via drag-and-drop.. nor copying the content of a file as a text (i.e. clipboard)..

thanks.

Migration from Win7 x64 to Win10x64 - how to?

$

I have an HP EliteBook 8560w which is end-of-life and I am migrating over to a new HP ZBook 15 G5.

The old laptop runs Windows 7 Pro x64 and the new Windows 10 Pro x64.

On my old laptop I have VMWare Workstation PRO15 installed and a lot of vm:s on a 2 TB internal datadrive.

I will move the data drive over to the new laptop (I bought a ZBook because it has a 2.5" hdd drive bay in addition to the SSD system drive).

Some issues have arisen when I am planning the move (have not yet started up the new laptop):

1) Install WorkStation PRO15 on new laptop?

Can I install WorkStation PRO15 on the new laptop with the same license I used on the old one or do I have to buy a new or uninstall on the old one first?

When I am all done and verified the new laptop I will uninstall Workstation PRO15 from the old laptop.

2) Cloning the old laptop?

I need to be able to access the old laptop even when it is retired. A virtual machine clone would be fine.

I have a very recent system backup made by Windows Backup in the form of 2 vhd files, presumably one is the C: system drive and one is the hidden Windows drive. They are 288 and 61 GB in size respectively.

Can I clone the laptop using one or both of these vhd files or do I need to use some other method?

I will uninstall a whole bunch of software from the old laptop to reduce its footprint first of course.

Any advice and reports of similar tasks welcome!

Hi *,

i can access the ESXi console with my root & pw, but not the WebAccess with "root" & pw. The pw is the same, there are no spell / keyboard language issues.

We have a single ESXi 6.5 (4887370), no vCenter. No Domain Account, just local.

Best regards

UMDS "export" step -- Is it mandatory?

$

All of the guides list vmware-umds -E as one of the final steps.  Is it necessary?  Can I just place the IIS virtual directory on C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Data and call it a day?  It seems to be working but I haven't actually patched anything with it yet.

The export step seems superfluous as it just makes a copy of everything UMDS has downloaded.  Or does it?  Does it compile metadata into an XML or something?

dead I/O on igb-nic (ESXi 6.7)

Hi,

I'm running a homelab with ESXi 6.7 (13006603). I got three nics in my host, two are onboard and one is an Intel ET 82576 dual-port pci-e card. All nics are assigned to the same vSwitch; actually only one is connected to the (physical) switch atm.

When I'm using one of the 82576 nics and put heavy load on it (like backing up VMs via Nakivo B&R) the nic stops workign after a while and is dead/Not responding anymore. Only a reboot of the host or (much easier) physically reconnecting the nic (cable out, cable in) solves the problem.

I was guessing there is a driver issue, so I updated to the latest driver by intel:

[root@esxi:~] /usr/sbin/esxcfg-nics -l

Name    PCI          Driver      Link Speed      Duplex MAC Address       MTU    Description

vmnic0  0000:04:00.0 ne1000      Down 0Mbps      Half   00:25:90:a7:65:dc 1500   Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection

vmnic1  0000:00:19.0 ne1000      Up   1000Mbps   Full   00:25:90:a7:65:dd 1500   Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection

vmnic2  0000:01:00.0 igb         Down 0Mbps      Half   90:e2:ba:1e:4d:c6 1500   Intel Corporation 82576 Gigabit Network Connection

vmnic3  0000:01:00.1 igb         Down 0Mbps      Half   90:e2:ba:1e:4d:c7 1500   Intel Corporation 82576 Gigabit Network Connection

[root@esxi:~] esxcli software vib list|grep igb

net-igb                        5.2.5-1OEM.550.0.0.1331820            Intel   VMwareCertified   2019-06-16

igbn                           0.1.1.0-4vmw.670.2.48.13006603        VMW     VMwareCertified   2019-06-07

Unfortunately this didn't solve the problem.

However ... this behaviour doesn't occur, when I'm using one of the nics using the ne1000 driver.

Any idea how to solve the issue?

(... or at least dig down to it's root?)

Thanks a lot in advance.

Regards

Chris

PS: I found another thread which might be connected to my problem: Stopping I/O on vmnic0  Same system behaviour, same driver.

Windows 10 - 1903 - Missing CAlculator and Stickynotes after deploying golden image.

$

Hi, working on a golden image, and when i deploy this to my testenvironment, basic applications like Sticky Notes and Calculator are missing.

When my users, who not are admins, need these applications, they need to go to MS Store(Wich is disabled by GPO)...

In my Golden image, i'm able to start both of these without any questions.

If i turn off the GPO policy, i get a message like:"you need an app to open the ms-calculator app"

How can i ensure that Sticky notes and Calculator ARE installed on my golden image, and is it possible to locate the .EXE files somewhere?

I installed Mac OS X Mojave Beta 5, and now when I start a VMWare Fusion guest (Windows 10) my keyboard and mouse are not working in the guest. When I was using OS X Mojave Beta 4, they worked fine. Any thoughts on a solution to get my keyboard and mouse to start working again?
