Writable disk to redirect Windows search (Index of Outlook only)

$

Hi Guys,

In our non-persistent environment (Delete on log off)

we have Office 2016 installed in the base image - Office 365. (OST files are sitting on the SAN on a Cifs share via a drive mapping.)

The one obstacle we have is that users have a very poor searching experience, because the Window search service is disabled.

I want to do the following:

1. Create a custom Writable disk so I can redirect this Search content to a persistant location ( Cannont be a UNC path! )

2. Enable the Windows Search Service - this will require a recompose

3. Configure GPO for Indexing and redirect

Questions:

has anyone done this ?

What template do I use?

how do i make the Adjustments to the template config files to only Redirect "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search".

Has anyone got a better idea ?

ManyThanks

Event subscription - Event ID - where does it come from?

$

Good evening,

I´m using vRA event subscription to call vRO workflows during "machine provisioned" provisioning state.

The call happens successfully, therefore all is good here.

My question is actually related to the information within the event. The machine provisioning event passes to vRO information like "machine", "blueprintName", "endpointId" and so on.

One of those information is "requestId".

I was trying to use that requestId to get request related to the recently provisioned machine.

The thing is, while checking the vRO inventory and the "requestId" variable passed by vRA, I noticed that the "requestId" passed down by vRA and the "requestId" in the Requests are not the same.

Therefore, is there a way I can get the catalog item request related to a virtual machine being provisione by vRA?

Thank you once again.

Workstation Pro 12.5.2 icon issues

I just upgraded to 12.5.2 today.  Host is running Ubuntu 16.04.  When I launch VMWare Workstation, some icons are corrupted.  The 'X' for closing tabs is only showing the bottom and the network icon in the status bar at the bottom doesn't look like anything.

Any ideas how to resolve this?  Restarting didn't seem to help.

Can't import VM

I have a bit of a problem, and I'm a newbie to VMWare.  I have a host setup that I reinstalled after finding out that having it installed on a USB stick prevents me from using USB pass through.

Now I need to import the VM I had previously built into the new host, but can't seem to get the web client past step 3, Select Storage.

Here's where I'm completely stuck.  I can click NEXT all day, it doesn't do anything.

My VMDK is only 13Gb, so this is not a space issue.

Can't Upload Template via vCloud

Hi,

we are having issues while uploading a Template from vCloud. When we are trying to upload the template, vCloud can upload it to it's storage but once it is trying to deploy that template into vCenter it's getting failed with an error : Network is unreachable. When I check tasks and events from vCenter I can see events : folder is being created, vm start deployment from 0 and it just goes to 100% and then unregistered and removed. And there are some messages that port is disconnected in DVS.

Can some one help on it. I have attached screenshot for error from both vCenter and vCloud.

Thanks in advanced.

Hi,

We're implementing a product, which states in the documentation, that num_rqs should be set to 1. The kernel supplied module 1.4.7.0-k-NAPI says "unknow parameter", when modprobing it with num_rqs.

I tried installing the "legay" vmware tools instead of open-vm-tools, but as far as I can see, kernels since 3.1 includes the vmnet3 driver, and the installer won't build the module on my 4.1.x kernel.

Is num_rqs depcreated - or replaced by another option?

Redundant vCenter Server

Can we create 2 or more vCenters in a same datacenter for redundancy?

Is it applicable if the primary vCenter is a Windows based VM with an embedded database and PSC installed in a same VM?

What would be the requirements to achieve such feat?

And if this is possible, which vCenter would you associate the plugins like vROPs, SRM, VDPA, vSphere replication etc.....

When I am trying to create protection groups, when I try to associate the LUNs to be protected; it is not found in the SRM.

But the LUNs is perfectly visible via vsphere or web client.

Does re installing the array manager will resolve this?

Hi,

How do I add a VM in a VMHostAffinity drs rule with powercli?

Hi all,

I have VM with 4GB RAM and checked in the VM performance in the VCenter tab it is utilizing 20% only but when i log into my windows server 2012 in the task manager it is showing VM memory reached 99% .

In this scenario how i can validate VM performance and which number i should consider to give exact performance of the VM.

We encounter a problem that the VM vMotion can not work due to "Failed waiting for data. Error 195887105. Failure.". We have try many times, the error is same. We have check the vMotion connectivity by ping, each host can ping successful with the vMotion vmknic's IP. It confused us that we did not know meaning of the error code.

By check the  vmkernel.log, we found in content in tartget host:

VSAN Proactive Health Check

We are conducting a VSAN proactive health check on a VSAN environment but test results are varying.

Some tests will pass on certain time intervals like "stress test" will pass on 20 mins but some hosts will have an error if 10 mins is selected.

Is this a known behaviour in VSAN proactive health check?

VSAN, vCenter Server  and ESXi version are 6.2

How to get IOPS per VM using powerCLI 5.5 r2

Hello community!

We are looking for how to get IOPS per VM using powerCLI commands such as Get-Stat  (Reads per second & Writes per second on vCops, I presume).

I've read some articles online describing how to do that but there are no available statistics to be harvested on each VM we handle. Can I do that in the following condition? We have more than a thousand VMs.

Please advise what the best way is!

> Get-PowerCLIVersion

PowerCLI Version

----------------

VMware vSphere PowerCLI 5.5 Release 2 build 1671586

Snapin Versions

ESXi 6 and mult-writer flag missing

$

Wondering if any one has come across this in ESXi 6.0 (vCenter 6.0 U1).

When you go into Edit Settings > Options tab > General > Configuration Parameters and try to add the following:

scsi0:3.sharing = multi-writer (or whatever scsi id is being used)

It doesn't stick. Curious if this was removed or replaced in version 6.0 of ESXi. Seems 5.5 still allows this to be added. But anytime I try to add it, the configuration change goes through but when I look at the settings again, it is no longer there (which I've seen in the past when you put in a wrong setting). And when I boot a cluster, I can confirm the disks are not being "shared" as one of them complains that the disks are locked.

It only seems to happen in 6.0.

I try also with powercli without success:

get-vmEJLDPRU1| New-AdvancedSetting-Name"scsi0:2.sharing"-Value'multi-writer'–confirm:$false–force

Thanks!
