How do you create a vm with no disks in VRA 7

$

Hi

I'm trying to create a vm that has no disks attached to it during the request phase. I've build a new blueprint with "BuildVMWorkflow". The issue is that if I set Maximum volumes to 0 (which according to the help is suppose to disable adding any volumes), the minimum storage in the resources tab is set to 0. However it has to be 1 or greater for the blueprint to be accepted as valid. Anyone know of how this should work?

cheers,

Jakub

Which PSC should the recovery site SRM node point to

$
0
0

Setup is as follows:

  • vSphere 6
  • 1 vcenter server (vcenter01) and 1 PSC (PSC01) at protected site
  • 1 vcenter server (vcenter02) and 1 PSC (PSC02) at recovery site
  • Each vcenter server is pointed at its own PSC
  • There is no load balancer involved

During the protected site SRM install, when it asked which PSC to choose, I chose PSC01 which then allowed me to select the appropriate vcenter server, vcenter01.  When I installed SRM at the protected site I was not able to choose PSC02.  It gave me the error "failed to find a vcenter server from platform services controller".  If I told it to use PSC01 I was then able to select the appropriate vCenter server (vCenter02) for the recovery site.  My question, is this normal?  I assumed I would target the recovery site instance of SRM at the recovery site PSC.

thank you

Dears,

Can some one explain what are the basic and major requirement to become Vmware Certified Trainer and how to achieve this milestone.

vmware-vpxd service cannot start after importing Machine SSL certificate

Hi people,

I have implemented vCenter Server 6 WEB appliance and tried to import self signed SSL Machine certificate, in order to access on vCenter web interface using that certificate for HTTPS. Certificate was signed by Windows Server 2008 CA with template configured using these instrustions: Creating a Microsoft Certificate Authority Template for SSL certificate creation in vSphere 6.0 (2112009) | VMware KB. Also, I tried to import Comodo Trial Positive SSL certificate with same issue - couldn't import it.

I used the VMCA script for certificate management and also tried to import them manually using this procedure: vSphere 6.0 Documentation Center. In both cases, process crashed during vmware-vpxd service restarting process. VMCA script exited with rolling-back old certificates. After trying to manual replace certificates using commands certool and vecs-cli, I tried to start vmware-vpxd service using command service vmware-vpxd start. It produced following output:

Virtual Machine Set to Private To 'My MAC' but gets an IP address from vmnet1

Strange one here I've been trying to figure out. Difficult one to describe!

Scenario :

4x VMs

1x AD/DNS/DHCP server

1x PXE server

1x SCCM

1x Empty VM for installing OS on

The configuration of all servers are set to 'My Mac', and i can create a virtual machine which then boots via PXE, and gets a valid IP address whilst booting. An entry goes into my DHCP and DNS. Lovely.

When WinPE begins though, it gets its IP from my mac itself, which is off 172.x.x.x format. I validate this by using nbtstat -a , and the ip address given of the dns/dhcp

On the mac itself, using ifconfig, i can see this relates to vmnet1.

I'm trying to work out what i need to do to prevent this happening.

Wondering if anyone has had similar experiences? I thought that a guest only network shouldnt be accessible from any external networks?

cheers,

Tim

Optimal settings on LSI 9361-8i for VSAN

I have the documentation on this card, and of course "enable jbod" is the main setting to allow VSAN to work; but I'm wondering if there are other settings on this specific card that work best for VSAN. Our environment is about to be 4x ESXi 6.x hosts, each with 524Gb RAM, a single 400Gb SSD Cache drive, and 3x 6Tb spinny disks (all disks are on the HCL). We'll also have a "normal" Samsung EVO ssd for the OS (we have a bunch of them laying around so I figured I'd use them for something!). We'll mirror this setup offsite, run replication and SRM for business continuity.

So: has anybody already done the hard work and found optimal settings for this card, for running VSAN in an HCI environment?

Thanks!

Updates to VMTN homepage

Hi,

First congrats for the VMTN homepage update, but seems like it is missing the Most Active Members portlet, like the following:

top02102014.JPG

I know that there is a Top Participants portlet, and all respect to these guys that build up the VMTN, but some of them are very inactive actually and have logged in for the last time in March/May 2016 and another one in June 2015.

So in my option, the Most Active Members is important to show the community members who is still active/alive.

And another cool feature that was hidden and never came back: Why Mark as Helpful is hidden ?

Hello

I have two vCenter Servers, Production and Recovery Site, both Windows boxes, apart of same SSO domain, in linked mode and both at the latest build of 5.5. I am trying to upgrade my recovery site first to 6.0U2 using the migration assistant to create an appliance. The upgrade is failing in the pre-upgrade checker with the below errors in the migration-assistant.log:

So I have done my due diligence and replaced the certs on the vCenter (Embedded deployment with external/remote SQL DB) but I am still getting the same error. I can confirm the certificates have been regenerated and applied successfully. Also did a complete uninstall and re-install to no avail.

Thoughts?

vRealize Orchestrator missing from vCenter Web Client

VRO working great in the java and downloadable clients. However, I am unable to get Orchestrator to appear in the vsphere web client

Running the following versions:

vRealize Orchestrator v7.01

vRealize vCenter v6, build 2559277

I have tried a variety of authentication configurations for VRO (LDAP, legacy SSO, vSphere, VRA). Same behavior in each.

I have triple-dog checked my roles/permissions/assignments.

I've restarted vro and vsphere web client services.

I've forced the VRO plugin deployment (with VRO service stopped).

I am unable to see the vro extension registered in the MOB

I've gone through release notes and can't find anything additional to try

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions before I engage VMW support?

Thanks everyone - y'all rock!

I've spent time on the following blogs/posts:

The vCenter server appliance will get wedged if you attempt to deploy the OVA on a non-internet connected network because of the RPM update process it launches not being able to download updates.

IP settings input during the OVA deployment process are discarded, you have to log in at the console to re-input them after the initial boot and self-setup processes are complete.

The Flash based UI cannot be accessed from Chrome if Chrome cannot connect to the internet (download failed or flash player out of date errors even if chrome and bundled flash are fully up to date).

Mirage 5.8 / Storage Question

Hi everyone - I was after some quick advice with regards to structuring the volumes in Mirage 5.8

Essentially,  we have a number of volumes attached to Mirage,  here is a summary of a few of them:-

APP

BASE
BASE2
DRIVERLIB

Now,  we've had some issues of late with the volumes running out of freespace,  despite there being no active workstations / users on the system.

Our retention / snapshot policy is set to Zero days which hasn't helped

Ive had a support call open with Vmware support who have webexed in for a quick look.   Their diagnoses is that our Mirage storage has been configured incorrectly and needs to be looked at.

Their suggestion was 2 volumes max - but they didn't say which mirage layers should be assigned to which volume

Can anyone make any suggestions please?  Supports final comment on the matter was that we were losing the Mirage dedupe capability by having too many Volumes assigned.

If it matters,  I would add that we are not storing user data in Mirage,  but just using it as a tool for building systems.  Its not live yet,  all images and applayers have been removed until this issue has been sorted.

Regards,

Upgrade: AK to E+

Hi guys, hope you're fine.

We have a customer asking us if they can upgrade;

From: VMware vSphere Advanced Acceleration Kit for 6 processors with vCenter Standard

To: Enterprise +

If so, what conditions or considerations we must be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

Upload Schedule

After reading the documentation I am still confused on upload scheduling. It seems to be located in the CVD policy > general settings > upload change interval in minutes. Then also under system configuration > settings > general > snapshots. From what I can tell the settings in the policy are when it uploads and how often, then the snapshots are how many different uploads it keeps stored? I would like to configure certain CVD's under a policy to only upload changes once a week after centralizing.

Any advice?

Does CVE-2016-7461 issue exist in Fusion 8 earlier than 8.5.1?

According to the Fusion 8.5.2 release notes, that version "addresses an out-of-bounds memory access vulnerability related to the drag-and-drop feature." Is that vulnerability present in all versions of Fusion 8 or was it introduced in v8.5.1?

I ask because I've been using v8.1.0 without problems (with a Yosemite host) even with Windows 10 Insider releases and "if it works, leave it alone" is my motto.

How to operate NSX manager, given vCenter host/user/password?

I'm working on an NSX related project. I'd like to operate the NSX API, given a vCenter connection (vSphere API). How can I achieve that? I believe that is possible because when I login vCenter web client by specifying vCenter host, user, password, I can see the associated NSX manager, and do operations (issued to NSX manager), without specifying NSX manager address and credential.

My question is how can I do that at API level? I'm assuming that involves creating vCenter connection using vSphere API (I'm familiar with this part), find the associated NSX manager (not sure how to do that in vSphere API), then login NSX API (I know how to do this using NSX API with host/user/password, but don't know how to achieve it using a vCenter connection, sounds like some kind of SSO between vCenter and plugin), and finally do NSX operations (I'm familiar with this part).

Appreciate your help on this. Thanks.

Consigli implementazione datastore

Suggerimenti ?

grazie in anticipo

cpu e loro frequenza

Buongiorno

Ciao,

Qualcuno usa il Vcenter 5.5  come appliance?

Ieri notte ho lasciato a clonare una vm con Vcenter tra due datastore, questa mattina ho trovato il filesystem del vcenter corrotto.

Sono solo io il fortunato? Oppure è successo a qualcuno? Qualche idea? Meglio passare alla versione con windows?

Grazie mille

Is a seperate PSC required for a DR site?

Hi all,

Was wondering if a separate platform services controller installation would be required if we went with an embedded upgrade from 5.5 to 6.5.  Most likely we would go for an appliance install on both our production and DR sites.  We only have two sites.

Thanks for any replies
