For the last five days I've searched and searched for a solution to this problem as it seems simple, but I cannot find my solution. I cannot ping my gateway from my VMs inside ESXi 5.5 nor can I get out to the internet from them. Here is my setup...
-Ubuntu 14.04 running Workstation 10
-- ESXi 5.5 VM inside Workstation 10, Network adapter is bridged, vSwitch0 security is set to accept promiscuous mode
--- Windows 7 VM inside ESXi 5.5, Windows firewall is disabled.
- The ESXi 5.5 VM gets an IP address from my router (ASUS AC68R) via DHCP (192.168.1.47)
- The Windows 7 VM also gets an IP address from my router via DHCP (192.168.1.112)
- The windows 7 VM can ping the ESXi VM and the ESXi VM can ping the windows 7 VM
- Gateway IP address is the IP address of my router, 192.168.1.1
- Subnet masks are the same across the board, 255.255.255.0
So, long story short, VMs inside ESX can ping each other, but cannot ping anything outside of ESX. I find this odd considering they are getting IP addresses from the router which is outside of ESX, but it appears that it is a configuration issue with my router that is blocking things. If any other info will help with diagnosing this, let me know and I'll gather it and post it.
Thanks.
