I downloaded the OVF from the ThinApp Factory download page.
I then used the "Deploy OVF Template" option in vSphere to create the ThinApp Factory VM.
I used this method instead of the "deploy from executable" method, as that kept failing for me.
The .OVA method worked perfectly first time - however, as it wasn't the executable style deployment, there was no wizard in which I could supply a valid ESX account with the rights to create machines.
Nor is there anywhere within the ThinApp Factory Settings to supply this information that I can find!?
How am I supposed to supply ESX admin credentials if I'm not prompted to during deployment, and there's nowhere to supply them within the ThinApp Factory config settings!?
The vmWare installation "documentation" assumes that the only method of deployment available is via the executable/wizard method - so is of no use at all.
Frustrating that vmWare provide two means of deployment, but the documentation doesn't reflect this?
